一 |     The Indian cricket team's vice captain, Smriti Mandhana, has confirmed that her marriage to music composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal has been called off, ending weeks of rumours. On Sunday, the announcement was made via an Instagram story. This was her first public reaction to the rumours that had been circulating about her personal life in recent weeks.     Mandhana said it was crucial to provide clarification in the statement, acknowledging the heavy scrutiny over the previous several weeks. She described herself as a private person. However, even though she had planned to keep her private affairs out of the public eye, the rumours had left her with no other option than to come clean. The wedding stands cancelled, she said, and she asked the fans and the media to give both families time and privacy to deal with this. She emphasised her need for privacy by writing, "I would like to close this matter here."     The original date of the ceremony was November 23, 2025, at Sangli, Maharashtra. However, Mandhana's father experienced excruciating chest discomfort the morning before the incident. After he was taken to the hospital, medical professionals discovered that his cardiac enzymes were high. Mucchal soon needed medical attention as well. As a result, the wedding was put on hold indefinitely by both families.     Shortly after Mandhana’s statement, Palash Mucchal also issued a message, saying he has chosen to “move on” from the relationship. He expressed how difficult it has been to see unverified rumours circulate freely online and urged people to be more mindful. He added that his team will pursue legal action against false or defamatory content, thanking those who supported him during the challenging time.Mandhana reiterated that cricket remains her main focus. She expressed gratitude for the continued support and said she hopes to keep playing for India at the highest level. 四 | かつて「なんでも反対してみる、それでこそ学生だよ」と言った伝説の学長がいた大学で、今、何が起きているのか。（フリーランスライター ふるまいよしこ） 【この記事の画像を見る】 ●　香港中文大学のロケーション 　香港のトップ大学の一つ、香港中文大学は、香港といえば誰しもが想像するあのニョキニョキビルが立ち並ぶ大都会の喧騒から離れ、緑と水に囲まれたすばらしい立地にある。初めてそこを訪れた人は「香港にもこんなところが！」とびっくりするはずだ。　市内中心部から中国・深センを結ぶ鉄道に乗り、そのものずばりの「大学」駅に降り立つと、ホームからは山肌に沿って点在する大学施設が目に入る。駅を出たところには校内循環バスの停留所があり、電車を降りた人たちは三々五々それらのバスに乗り込み、広大なキャンパスに散らばる施設へと送られていく……。

五 | 　そのキャンパスはこれまで長い間、一般市民も自由に出入りできていた。それこそ、外部の人間がゆっくりと散策したり、時には学内で開かれる公開講座に参加したり、思いつきで教授が校庭で行う授業を勝手に「聴講」することもできた。そんな贅沢な環境でじっくり学べるせいだろうか、同大学卒業生たちは、総体的に線の細い香港人大学生の中で豪胆な人が多い気がする。●　大学に「改札口」が生まれた日 　しかし今は、駅を出るとバス停留所の手前に、まるで改札口のような機械が設置され、学生や教職員たちは学内身分証をかざしてそこをすり抜ける。外部の人間は別途設けられた、警備員が待ち構えるテントに赴き、行き先あるいは訪ね人の所属や名前を伝え、自身の身分証明を提示して初めて入校が許されるシステムになっている。

六 | 　その審査は特別厳しいものではないし、警備員の態度も穏やかで丁寧だ。だが、眼の前いっぱいに広がる開放的な空間に比べると、また以前そこを自由に出入りできていた闊達さを知る身としては、やはりひっかかるものがある。

七 | 　このシステムは、2019年の反政府デモの際に大学キャンパスで火の手が上がるほど激しい衝突が繰り広げられた後に設置された。やはり警察と衝突したデモ隊が約2週間にわたって籠城する現場となった香港理工大学も、以前は隣の鉄道駅やバスターミナルへ行くために多くの市民がそこを自由に通り抜けていたのに、今は同様の「改札機」が設置され、市民の往来はできなくなっている。　香港の大学はあの時をきっかけに、大きくその姿を変えてしまった。
